Virgin of Los Remedios
Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain (16th c.)
In the 1500s, a supernatura light guided a shepherd to a small standing image of the Virgin. A shrine, dedicated to Our Lady of Remedies, was built there.
In 1738, a reat drought afflited the region. On February 13 the local council decided to perform a novena and procession with Our Lady of Remedies going from the monastery to the church for nine days.
When the processions ended on February 24, rain began to fall and was still falling on the 27th, when the council met again to name Nuestra Sefiora de los Remedios patron of Chiclana de la Frontera. Pope Benedict XV confirmed her patronage of the town on June 12, 1916.
Chiclana honors her on September 8.
