Our Lady of Ujarrás
Costa Rica (16th c.)
In the 16th century, a native was fishing in the Pacuare River when he saw a wooden box that he picked up without opening it and brought it to his people.
When he reached Ujarrás on his way to Cartago, he could not lift the box even with the help of others. They opened the box to discover a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary.
He told the monks at the Franciscan monastery what was happening. She was then given the full name of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of Ujarrás.
From this place spread the devotion to the Our Lady of Ujarrás to several parts of the country, including the ancient capital of Cartago.
