Our Lady of the Stars

Cellatica, Italy (1536)

On May 31, 1536 the Blessed Virgin appeared to  Antonio de ‘Antoni, a poor deaf-mute shepherd of  Gardone Val Trompia who was tending the flock of a  landowner of San Vigilio, and  reciting the Holy Rosary. Suddenly, he received an apparition of Our Lady with  the Child in her arms. She  said to invite the inhabitants of the surrounding villages to dedicate a temple in that  place. Mary encouraged  him, assuring him that she herself would have confirmed his request with miracles and graces.

Pope Paul lll granted the  building of the sanctuary, on  which work began in 1537  and ended in 1539.
