Our Lady of Tears 2
Espinhal, Portugal (13th c.)
At the time King Dinis ruled Portugal, in a village called Vats, the overseer of the island, William of Pavia, heard sorrowful moans coming from the woods. He gave the news to the Queen that heheard these moans and she told him to return and seek for an image of Our Lady that he should take to church in Vats.
William heard the cries again, searched the woods and found a very heavy stone image of the Virgin, needing to be transported to the river in a cart.
William did not neglect to go to Coimbra to break the news to the Queen, the saintly Isabel, who immediately hastened to come to Vats to be the first of pilgrims to pray before the image of Our Lady of Tears.
Miracles, including the end of a drought, began to happen.
