Our Lady of Montalto

Messina, Sicily, Italy (1294)

One night a humble friar named Nicholas dreamt of the Virgin Mary who told him to go the next day to the Senate of Messina and inform them that Our Lady of the High Mountain wanted a temple built. When he awoke,      he ignored the dream. The next night, the Virgin appeared again, scoiding him for disobedience. The      monk then asked Her how he could get himself heard    by the Senate. Our Lady told him not to despair, and      the next day at noon, a dove was outlined in show on the hill site to indicate the location. On June 12, 1294, the hill was full of  people of Messina, and the white dove marked out the spot. Fra Nicholas went  to      Matagrifone castle to find the Queen Constance who      promised her help and laid the first stone in 1295.
