Our Lady of Mercy
Savona, ltaly (1536)
On the morning of March18, farmer Antonio Botta was on his way to work in his vineyard in San Bernardo.
He saw a brilliant light with a figure of a woman who said that she was the Virgin Mary and urged him to atonement and prayer.
Some weeks later, she appeared sitting on a rock in a stream, and encouraged him to pray.
Botta told the people just what he had seen and heard and was at once believed. A large church was erected on the site and many pilgrims visited the “Mother of Mercy.”
On March 18, 1660, Mons. Gregoire Ardizzone, declared Our Lady of Mercy “patroness and protectress of the city”. On every March 18, there is a procession organized in her honor.
