Our Lady of Linares

Spain (1808)

The first time the image of  Our Lady of Linares was  moved to Cordoba was in 1808, when the French  invasion, whose troops, under General Dupont, were  about to enter the city. In the afternoon of Saturday June  4, 1808, at the sanctuary of Our Lady of Help, many  priests and people came through the door processed  with the image of Our Lady of Linares along with Saint  Fernando and accompanied by all the inhabitants of the  province, including soldiers, cheered to the ringing of  bells and proclaimed her “The Invincible General.”

The procession went  through the Cross Trail to  the parish of St. Peter, in whose church the images  were deposited. The feast \day is celebrated on June 29 to commemorate Reconquista in 1236.
