Our Lady of Good Delivery
Paris, France (14th c.)
The Marian title for the patroness of Easy Childbirth, which is quite popular throughout western Europe, is traditionally celebrated on May 29.
The title is also known as Our Lady of the Milk and Happy Delivery. One of the most celebrated Madonnas in Paris is the 14th century image carved from a single block of hard limestone known by the title La Vierge Noire de Paris.
It was saved from destruction during the Revolution and is now preserved in the Church of St. Etienne de Gres. The Institution of the Confraternity of Our Lady of Deliverance was established at the Church of St. Etienne de Gres in 1533 or 1583.
