Mary in the Forest
Dolina, Austria (1849)
The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared as the Immaculate Conception on June 17, 18 and 19 to three shepherdesses to prepare the public proclamation of the dogma (1854). Thus began an influx of pilgrims into the woods to the place where she had appeared.
A wooden chapel was built and a painting created from the testimony of the children.
A local artist painted a picture called the Madonna del Bosco, inspired by the descriptions of the three shepherdesses. This painting was a picture of grace that inspired faith a devotion of many.
