Icon of the Mother of Go of Sviatogorsk

Russia (1569)

In 1563, near Pskov a “Tenderness” Icon appeared  to a fifteen-year-old shepherd named Timothy.

This icon was placed in the Voronicha parish church of St George. The voice from the icon said that after six years the grace of God would bless this hill.

In 1569 when a Hodigitria icon appeared upon a pine  tree, Timothy spent forty days there in fasting and  prayer. The voice from the icon commanded that people  should come on the Friday following the Sunday of All  Saints. When the procession reached the hill, a light  suddenly shone and the air was filled with fragrance and  everyone saw upon the pine tree the Hodigitria icon. Both holy icons, the Hodgitria and the Tenderness, were put into a newly built chapel.
