Our Lady of Victory, Refuge of Sinners
Paris, France (1628)
In an act of gratitude for his successful capture of the Huguenot city of La Rochelle in 1628, King Louis XIll gave the Augustinians funds to build a new monastery in Paris, with a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Victories.
A statue of the Virgin wit crown and scepter, carved from the miraculous oak of Montaigue, was placed in the chapel.
In 1674, a chapel was added under the title Refuge of Sinners and the church's name was expanded.
January 16, feast of Our Lady, Refuge of Sinners, became the scanctuary’s patronal feast.
In 1853, Pope Pius IX had the statue crowned.
