Our Lady of the Rose
Albano, Sant’alessandro, Italy (1417)
In the night between January 3rd and 4th, 1417, two Roman merchants, travelling from Bergamo to Brescia, were lost in a forest near the village of Albano.
Lost and fearful of dying in the cold, they turned fervently to the Lord with the vow to build a chapel, if they could survive the night. Suddenly the sky opened with rays of light breaking the darkness and a beam of light showed them the way.
With relieved and grateful hearts, they very quickly reached the city of Bergamo. With the basilica closed at that late hour, they found shelter in the nearby ruined tower and began to pray, and immediately the Immaculate Virgin and Child appeared before them. They later built a chapel in her honor.
