Holy Guardian Angels
October 2: Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels
The Feast of the Guardian Angels is celebrated on October 2. The Guardian Angels, according to Catholic tradition, are appointed by God to enlighten, protect, guide and govern people. The purpose of these tasks is not man's earthly well-being, but his eternal happiness with God.
It is believed that God has assigned a guardian angel to every person, not just to believers. The Catholic Church has never dogmaed the existence of these guardian angels. However, it is believed to be true.
They are depicted as winged persons of unclear sex. They need those wings to fly back and forth between us and heaven: they bring God's good thoughts to men and carry our prayers before God. They stand half behind the person entrusted to them.
If our Guardian Angel is faithful to us, we should also be faithful to him. Not just every now and then, but every day. Just ask for his help with a little quick prayer. After all, he accompanies us faithfully, not only in traffic. He accompanies us on all our paths, in all our assignments, conversations, visits and in our free time.
Prayer to the Holy Guardian Angels
Angel of God's light,
whom God sends as a companion for me on earth,
protect me from the snares of the devil,
and help me to walk always as a child of God, my Creator.
Angel of God's truth,
whose perfect knowledge serves what is true,
protect me from deceits and temptations.
Help me to know the truth,
and always to live the truth.
Angel of God's love,
who praises Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
who sacrificed His life for love of us,
sustain me as I learn the ways of Divine love,
of sacrificial generosity,
of meekness and lowliness of heart.
Thank You, my heavenly friend,
for your watchfull care.
At the moment of my death,
bring me to heaven,
where the one true God,
Who is light, Truth and Love,
lives and reigns forever and ever.
Amen.
