From Easter to Pentecost

Just as Sunday is the first and the eighth day, so the "great Sunday" of the fifty days of Eastertide/Pentecost begins with the day of the resurrection and continues through eight Sundays, an octave of Sundays, a "week of weeks." It has been suggested that the English expression "Whitsunday" derives from the French huit (eight), Pentecost being le huitième dimanche, the eighth Sunday of Easter.

He Is Risen!

The prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired about this salvation; they inquired what person or time was indicated by the Spirit of Christ within them when predicting the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glory. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things which have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news to you through the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.

V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice. Alleluia.
R. For He whom you were worthy to bear. Alleluia.

V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary. Alleluia.
R. For the Lord is truly risen. Alleluia.

O God, Who by the Resurrection of Thy Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, has
been pleased to give joy to the whole world, grant. we beseech Thee,
that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may
attain the joys of eternal life. Through the same Christ Our Lord.

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom God's love entrusts me here;
